About PicChess

Recognition runs entirely in your browser: your picture stays on your device. If you tick "Help improve PicChess" on the Scan panel, only the cropped, straightened board is shared (see Privacy below). There is no account.

Piece model: PicChess squares-screen (our own, trained on rendered boards in 30 piece sets and many themes).
Runtime: onnxruntime-web (MIT, Microsoft).
Board: cm-chessboard (MIT). Pieces: Chessnut (Apache-2.0). Rules: chess.js (BSD-2). Engine: Stockfish (GPL-3, licence).

Privacy: if you tick the box, only the cropped, straightened board (no other part of your picture) is sent once, with the position you confirmed and your corrections, as public domain (CC0) training data. We also count visits per day and source, nothing else. No cookies, no tracking.

Accuracy counter: this device keeps a count of how many squares you corrected after each scan. It is stored only in this browser and never sent anywhere.
